The biggest musical event of the Polish Baltic Philharmonic will last almost the entire month – from November 4 to 30, Gdańsk Piano Autumn. During this time, we will have three symphony concerts and six piano recitals performed by ten pianists from three continents. Outstanding artists will perform, including finalists and winners of the International Fryderyk Chopin Competition in Warsaw – Charles Richard–Hamelin, Leonora Armellini, Georgijs Osokins, Szymon Nehring, Hyuk Lee or Ewa Pobłocka.
4/11, 19:00 – Music of the North / Ignacy Lisiecki
The first recital of the 19th Gdańsk Piano Autumn will take you on an extraordinary musical journey through three continents. The entire festival will symbolically begin with a composition by the Ukrainian artist Valentin Silvestrov (Kitsch Music I & II), which is a form of tribute to the brave country fighting against the Russian invader. Later, a very talented Polish pianist who permanently lives in Japan, Ignacy Lisiecki zagra Prayer Sketch Bell Oliver Knussen from Great Britain, Spring and Asura by Japanese Dai Fujikura, Piano Sonata by Leonard Bernstein from the USA, Etudes by Dane Hans Abrahamsen, and closing the concert with Piano Sonata in E minor, Op. 7 by Edvard Grieg.

The only Polish winner of the Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Competition in Tel Aviv (2017) and winner of the Audience Award of the International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw (2015) Simon Nehring enjoys great sympathy of the Gdańsk audience. That is why he returns to the Polish Baltic Philharmonic to perform two works by Ludwig van Beethoven and one by Robert Schumann. You will hear the Sonata in F minor, Op. 2, No. 1, and the Sonata in E flat major, Op. 31, No. 3 by the last Viennese classicist, as well as the Symphonic Etudes, Op. 13 by one of the most important composers of the Romantic era.

The career of the winner of the Pomeranian Artistic Award in the Artistic Hope category for 2022 is still gaining momentum. This composer associated with Gdańsk (author of the five-part "Seaside Suite" for solo piano, inspired by the picturesque landscapes of Pomerania) and pianist is successful both solo and in duets. This time Mikołaj Sikała will play with PFB Orchestra, which will be led by maestro George Tchitchinadze. The artist will perform Sergei Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No. 16 in G minor, Op. XNUMX. In addition, the orchestral version will feature an impressive Pavane F sharp minor op. 50 Gabriel Fauré and Symphony No. 39 in E flat major, KV 543 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

For the first time, one of the leading pianists of his generation, winner of the 2015nd Prize at the International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw in XNUMX and the Prize for the best performance of a sonata, awarded by Krystian Zimerman, will play at the Philharmonic. Charles Richard Hamelin from Canada will perform a Chopin Recital, which will include works by the most famous Polish composer, including waltzes (in the keys of A minor, F major, F minor, C-sharp minor and A flat major), Allegro de concert in A major, Op. 46 and all four scherzos (B minor, B flat minor, C-sharp minor, E major).

Armenian-born American pianist Sergei Babayan also visits Gdańsk's Ołowianka for the first time. Korean Lee brothers won the hearts of the audience during last year's edition of the Gdańsk Piano Autumn. Due to numerous inquiries, we decided to invite them again to play the only recital for four hands and two pianos during the festivals. Very young artists (aged 24 and 17) will perform Six Caribbean Pieces for Two Pianos by Arthur Benjamin, The waltz for two pianos by Maurice Ravel and the entire Symphony No. 125 in D minor, Op. XNUMX by Ludwig van Beethoven, arranged for two pianos by Ferenc Liszt.

Another finalist of the 2015th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw (XNUMX), who gained great sympathy thanks to his original style of playing and a bit of extravagance - a Latvian Georgys Osokins - is a soloist of the last symphony concert this year as part of the Gdańsk Piano Autumn. Together with PFB Orchestra under the baton Charles Olivieri-Munroe he will play Piano Concerto No. 17 in G major, K. 453 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
