The Gdańsk Piano Autumn is ahead of us

The biggest musical event of the Polish Baltic Philharmonic will last almost the entire month – from November 4 to 30, Gdańsk Piano Autumn. During this time, we will have three symphony concerts and six piano recitals performed by ten pianists from three continents. Outstanding artists will perform, including finalists and winners of the International Fryderyk Chopin Competition in Warsaw – Charles Richard–Hamelin, Leonora Armellini, Georgijs Osokins, Szymon Nehring, Hyuk Lee or Ewa Pobłocka.

4/11, 19:00 – Music of the North / Ignacy Lisiecki

The first recital of the 19th Gdańsk Piano Autumn will take you on an extraordinary musical journey through three continents. The entire festival will symbolically begin with a composition by the Ukrainian artist Valentin Silvestrov (Kitsch Music I & II), which is a form of tribute to the brave country fighting against the Russian invader. Later, a very talented Polish pianist who permanently lives in Japan, Ignacy Lisiecki zagra Prayer Sketch Bell Oliver Knussen from Great Britain, Spring and Asura by Japanese Dai Fujikura, Piano Sonata by Leonard Bernstein from the USA, Etudes by Dane Hans Abrahamsen, and closing the concert with Piano Sonata in E minor, Op. 7 by Edvard Grieg.

7/11, 19:00 – Szymon Nehring - recital

The only Polish winner of the Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Competition in Tel Aviv (2017) and winner of the Audience Award of the International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw (2015) Simon Nehring enjoys great sympathy of the Gdańsk audience. That is why he returns to the Polish Baltic Philharmonic to perform two works by Ludwig van Beethoven and one by Robert Schumann. You will hear the Sonata in F minor, Op. 2, No. 1, and the Sonata in E flat major, Op. 31, No. 3 by the last Viennese classicist, as well as the Symphonic Etudes, Op. 13 by one of the most important composers of the Romantic era.

8/11, 19:00 – Symphonic concert – Mikołaj Sikała

The career of the winner of the Pomeranian Artistic Award in the Artistic Hope category for 2022 is still gaining momentum. This composer associated with Gdańsk (author of the five-part "Seaside Suite" for solo piano, inspired by the picturesque landscapes of Pomerania) and pianist is successful both solo and in duets. This time Mikołaj Sikała will play with PFB Orchestra, which will be led by maestro George Tchitchinadze. The artist will perform Sergei Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No. 16 in G minor, Op. XNUMX. In addition, the orchestral version will feature an impressive Pavane F sharp minor op. 50 Gabriel Fauré and Symphony No. 39 in E flat major, KV 543 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

18 / 11, 19: 00 - Charles Richard-Hamelin - recital

For the first time, one of the leading pianists of his generation, winner of the 2015nd Prize at the International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw in XNUMX and the Prize for the best performance of a sonata, awarded by Krystian Zimerman, will play at the Philharmonic. Charles Richard Hamelin from Canada will perform a Chopin Recital, which will include works by the most famous Polish composer, including waltzes (in the keys of A minor, F major, F minor, C-sharp minor and A flat major), Allegro de concert in A major, Op. 46 and all four scherzos (B minor, B flat minor, C-sharp minor, E major).

22/11, 19:00 – Symphony concert – Sergei Babayan

Armenian-born American pianist Sergei Babayan also visits Gdańsk's Ołowianka for the first time. Called pianist of pianists, whose interpretations combine subtle beauty and emotional fire (The Times of London) the artist is most often valued for his excellent technique, which he can show off both in brilliant recitals and concerts with the world's leading orchestras. Babayan in Gdańsk with PFB Orchestra run by the maestro Pawel Przytocki will play Johannes Brahms' Piano Concerto No. 83 in B flat major, Op. XNUMX. Endowed with a great temperament, which she puts to excellent use when playing the piano, the Italian Leonora Armellini will be the heroine of another recital. As in the case of Charles Richard-Hamelin, it will be entirely devoted to the work of Fryderyk Chopin. The 2021th prize winner of the 26th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition in 62 will perform Polonaises Op. 1, Nocturne Op. 35 No. 58 and Piano Sonata No. XNUMX (B flat minor Op. XNUMX) and Piano Sonata No. XNUMX (B minor Op. XNUMX).

28/11, 19:00 - Hyuk Lee and Hyo Lee - recital

Korean Lee brothers won the hearts of the audience during last year's edition of the Gdańsk Piano Autumn. Due to numerous inquiries, we decided to invite them again to play the only recital for four hands and two pianos during the festivals. Very young artists (aged 24 and 17) will perform Six Caribbean Pieces for Two Pianos by Arthur Benjamin, The waltz for two pianos by Maurice Ravel and the entire Symphony No. 125 in D minor, Op. XNUMX by Ludwig van Beethoven, arranged for two pianos by Ferenc Liszt.

Another finalist of the 2015th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw (XNUMX), who gained great sympathy thanks to his original style of playing and a bit of extravagance - a Latvian Georgys Osokins - is a soloist of the last symphony concert this year as part of the Gdańsk Piano Autumn. Together with PFB Orchestra under the baton Charles Olivieri-Munroe he will play Piano Concerto No. 17 in G major, K. 453 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Right at the beginning we have two extremely attractive concerts – the Chopin Recital supplemented with Spanish music will be given by the excellent winner of the Chopin Competition Martín García García. Right after that we celebrate the jubilee of the outstanding Polish composer Piotr Moss with the first performance of his work. In addition, pianist Piotr Sałajczyk will play for the first time at the Philharmonic, and we will once again host cellist Gary Hoffman. We will invite the youngest music lovers to a family concert dedicated to the patron of the PFB – Fryderyk Chopin.

We celebrate International Music Day on October 1 in installments. At the end of September, we invited you to a concert with organ masters, and at the beginning of October, we propose a recital by the winner of the 2021rd prize in the XNUMXth International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition in XNUMX. Martín García García is a pianist of exceptional skill and temperament. His interpretations are therefore always unique. This time he will perform a well-known repertoire. He will play the Polonaise-Fantasy A flat major, four Impromptus (G flat major, Op. 51, No. 3; A flat major, Op. 29, No. 1; F sharp major, Op. 36, No. 2 and the ImpromptuFantasy in C sharp minor, Op. 66) and Piano Sonata No. XNUMX in C minor by Fryderyk Chopin. The outstanding Polish composer Piotr Moss has lived in Paris for many years, where he creates orchestral, sacred, chamber and solo pieces, but also composes music for the theatre, jazz standards and literary songs. During the jubilee concert, in the presence of the composer, the first performance will be performed Alone – a song cycle for soprano and orchestra with lyrics christine depisan. The PFB Orchestra will be conducted by maestro Marek Wroniszewski, and the songs will be sung by an excellent soprano Iwona Hossa, to whom the work was dedicated. 11/10, 19:00 – Symphonic concert – Piotr Sałajczyk 

Z Orchestra of the Polish Baltic Philharmonic under the guidance Paul Kapula zagra Piotr Sałajczyk, who is considered by critics to be one of the most outstanding Polish performers of his generation. There will be an opportunity to listen to his performance in a work beloved by the audience - Fryderyk Chopin's Piano Concerto No. 21 in F minor, Op. XNUMX. We change course to jazz music, to which George Gershwin will introduce you. The musical talent of this American composer developed under the influence of popular music created in the Broadway circle. He gained fame thanks to, among others, the famous Rhapsody in Blue and a musical poem An American in Paris. The great merits and timelessness of his compositions ensured that he will be remembered long after his death. His musical theatre is still performed on stages all over the world. You will listen to his vocal and piano pieces, which grew out of the meeting of jazz, symphony and theatre. Lessons for teenagers will be led by Monika Pionk (singing, script and hosting of the concert) and Patryk Skarbek-Tłuchowski (piano).

18/10, 19:00 – Symphony Concert – Gary Hoffman

The great Canadian cellist will play at the Polish Baltic Philharmonic for the second time. This time Gary Hoffman will perform two compositions for cello and orchestra. It will be Kol Nidrei op. 47 by Max Bruch and Schelomo: Hebrew Rhapsody Ernest Bloch. The Gdansk Philharmonic Orchestra, led by their artistic director George Tchitchinadze, they will also play Sergei Prokofiev's Overture on Hebrew Themes, Op. 34, and Symphony No. 90 in A major, Op. XNUMX. Italian Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy.

Once a year PFB Orchestra will give a concert at the Sanctuary of Our Lady Help of Christians in Rumia, as part of the International Festival of Religious Music named after Father S. Ormiński. He will conduct Rafał Kłoczko, director of the Zielona Góra Philharmonic. 27/10, 12:00 – Family concert – Little Fryderyk – meet the patron of the Philharmonic

We have never had this before. We invite you to a mini-spectacle about one of the greatest Polish composers – Fryderyk Chopin. What kind of a little kid was Fryderyk Chopin? Did he think about fun and mischief, or maybe from an early age about beautiful music? During the concert, you will get to know our patron much better. We will bring you closer to the periods of life, work and inspirations of the wonderful patron of our Philharmonic. The role of little Fryderyk will be played by a student of the Gdańsk music school, Igor Świątek. Soprano Anna Fabrello and baritone Krzysztof Bobrzecki will sing, Aleksandra Mozgiel will play the piano, and the concert will be hosted and played on the flute by PFB artist Dorota Pawlus. On September 26-29, 2024, the organ will resound throughout Gdańsk, and the spirit of healthy competition, youth and great ambition will float throughout the city. September is off to a good start

The beginning of the season is ahead of us, which begins on September 6 with a symphony concert Start with Bach, dedicated to the work of Zbigniew Wodecki. For the first time, there will also be a family concert (15/09), during which you will hear Lovely melodies and whispers. Chamber music will be excellently represented by artists from Ukraine and Romania, who will show off their violin and piano playing (18/09). We will officially open the season with a symphonic concert with the participation of the wonderful Kate Liu (20/09). At the end of September, we will also have other interesting musical events - International Music Day (27/09) and two concerts as part of XII International Organ Competition JP Sweelinck (28-29 / 09).

Musical attractions of August

Summer is in full swing, so there is no shortage of musical attractions. We invite you to a unique series Music in the monuments of old Gdańsk in the architectural pearls of the town on the Motława River. Two symphony concerts will be held in the Philharmonic building with the participation of outstanding soloists - the concertmaster of the Polish Philharmonic, a violinist Robert Kwiatkowski and a pianist Aleksandra Dębicz.

10 concerts of the Chopin series on the waters of the Motława

July is a great time to visit the Polish Baltic Philharmonic. Although the PFB Orchestra has a day off this month, no one will complain about the lack of attractions. The series starts on July 15 Chopin on the waters of the Motława, during which every day until July 24 at 20:30 p.m an excellent pianist will play. This group includes mainly artists associated with Gdańsk, but not only them. There will also be a pianist from Georgia, who visits Poland for the first time.

June begins in Gdynia with the participation of the Polish Baltic Philharmonic Orchestra during the Gdynia Classica Nova festival. Later, the Orchestra will play at its headquarters on Ołowianka Island in a less frequently performed film repertoire and a special concert at the end of the 2023/2024 artistic season. The culmination of the month is the inauguration of the Gdańsk Music Summer in Oliwa. We invite you!

The Polish Baltic Philharmonic does not slow down. We co-organize the Gdańsk Music Festival, during which the PFB Orchestra will play twice (with pianist Daniel Ciobanu and opera singers associated with the sic itur ad astra foundation). We are crowning the Polish Music Stage series with concerts with the participation of Książek Piano Duo and the pianist Maciej Gański and violist Krzysztof Komendarek-Tymendorf. A unique family concert will also take place in the afternoon, with the participation of the PFB Orchestra conducted by Tadeusz Wicherek.

Pomeranian Art Awards awarded

We met the winners of the 25th anniversary Pomeranian Art Award. Three winners of the best Artistic Creations in 2023, the Pomeranian Artistic Hope and the Patron of Culture in 2023 were selected. The Marshal of the Pomeranian Voivodeship, Mieczysław Struk, also awarded the Great Pomeranian Artistic Award to the most distinguished artists associated with Pomerania.
