Charles Richard–Hamelin
One of the leading pianists of his generation, winner of the 2015nd Prize at the International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw in 2015 and the prize for the best performance of a sonata, awarded by Krystian Zimerman. He is also a winner of the XNUMXnd Prize at the International Music Competition in Montreal and the XNUMXrd Prize and a special prize for the performance of a Beethoven sonata at the International Music Competition in Seoul. In XNUMX, he was awarded the prestigious Career Development Award, awarded by the Women's Musical Club in Toronto.
He has performed at festivals such as the Prague Spring, the Lanaudrière Festival, La Roqure d'Anthéron and the Georg Enescu Festival in Bucharest. As a soloist, he has performed with many renowned ensembles, such as the symphony orchestras of Montreal, Toronto, Quebec, Edmonton, the symphony orchestras of Singapore, Hiroshima, Korea, I Musici de Montréal, OFUNAM from Mexico, the National Arts Centre Orchestra in Ottawa. In Poland: Polish Radio Chamber Orchestra Amadeus, Sinfonia Varsovia, and the orchestras of the Calgary Philharmonic, the National Philharmonic in Warsaw, the Poznań Philharmonic, the Kraków Philharmonic and the Beethoven Academy.
Born in Lanaudrière, Canada, he studied with Paul Surdulescu, Sara Laimon, Boris Berman, and André Laplante at McGill University, the Yale School of Music, and the Montreal Conservatory. In 2015, Analekta released his critically acclaimed debut album of Chopin's late works. In 2016, the NIFC released a double album of the pianist's competition recitals as part of a series presenting the most interesting personalities of the 2018th Chopin Competition. In XNUMX, he recorded the complete Beethoven sonatas for violin and piano (with Andrew Wan), and albums of Chopin's solo works and concertos (with the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal). He also toured Japan, Korea, and China. He has also performed in Europe, Canada, and the United States.
